Alex Wilkie's MIxed Martial Arts Academy Interview

By Interviewer at 06/14/08 18:56

Name of your website?

Alex Wilkie's MIxed Martial Arts Academy

Your name?

Frank

Your Location (city, etc)

Bridgewater

Please give us a short summary of your website?

Alex Wilkie's Martial Arts Academy, in Bridgewater, New Jersey, is Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) at its absolute best. Inducted into Action Martial Arts Magazine's Hall of Fame in 2002, Master Wilkie is nationally known and respected for his knowledge, expertise, and contributions to the world of mixed martial arts.

What inspired you to launch your own website?

To promote, and educate people about, the mixed martial arts training available at Alex Wilkie's academy. We have also begun producing short martial arts/self-defense videos which are viewable on the site at http://www.alexwilkiemma.com/Video.html.

When did you launch your first website, and what was it?

This is the first website for the school. We have followed it up, and promoted it, with pages on MySpace and Facebook. In addition, we've developed an online store to promote merchandise (www.cafepress.com/alewwilkiemma)

How did you decide on a name for your website?

It was pretty much a no-brainer... we named it after the academy

What makes your website different from other, similar offerings?

We believe it is more dynamic; we add new content all the time.

What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)

The goal is to provide a web presence for our martial arts academy. The site will remain up as long as the school remains open.

How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?

Very well.

If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?

I don't think we would. The site, with a minimal investment of time and money, has literally doubled our class size already.

If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?

Yes. In fact we are about a month away from doubling the size our our facility.

What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?

None really.

What has been your biggest challenge?

Accommodating the huge influx of new students in our current facility.

What method has been most successful for promoting your website?

Word of mouth, reciprocal links, availability of free self-defense/martial-arts videos.

How has running your website differed from your expectations?

It has not differed at all.

How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?

The site has been up for about 2-years or so. As I mentioned before, it will remain up as long as the martial arts academy remains open.

What is your website address?
