Name of your website?Bushido Jiu-Jitsu
Your name?
Tyler Pyne
Your Location (city, etc)
Mississauga, Ontario, Canada
Please give us a short summary of your website?
it basically describes who we are, what we teach, where we are, when we hold classes, and how much we charge.
What inspired you to launch your own website?
We knew that the best way to attract new students would be through a website.
When do you plan on launching the new website
We hope to have the website completely overhauled before the end of this year. (2007)
How did Bushido Jiu-Jitsu start?
Well my step-father Drew was asked to teach a Jiu-Jitsu class at an Aikido dojo. He and myself taught there for quite awhile however the Aikido part of the club was not doing so well and had to close. When they closed the owner gave us the dojo name and we moved on to another location and kept going as Bushido Jiu-Jitsu.
What makes your club different that others?
This is a loaded question only because I believe strongly in what we do. We are Non-profit and because of that we charge one of the lowest rates in the Greater Toronto Area. Adults get to train 3 times a week and children get 2 classes all for $30/mth. You also get to learn many types and versions of Jiu-Jitsu and similar arts, we are not a traditional school, we grapple, we throw, we spar, we have fun.
What is your eventual goal?
To have a reputation of turning out the best students who love the sport for what it is.
How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?
Right now the time and money I have put out is payed back through my students desire to learn and return each class.
If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?
I would make sure that no matter what you typed in a search engine you would always find our site first.
If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?
I don't know if I would be able to handle the demand but I don't think that will really affect us, since were not selling product online (yet).
What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?
There haven't been a lot of unexpected costs, just headaches in getting the site updated regularly and maintain my full-time job.
What has been your biggest challenge?
There have been several, however I believe the biggest challenge is always finding professionals to do us a service for free.
What method has been most successful for promoting your website?
Word of mouth and Google.
How has running a non-profit school differed from your expectations?
We haven't had a lot of expectations for our school. We just want to make sure we cover our costs and continue to teach our love for the sport.
How long have you been running you club?
We have been in operation since 1992, moved several times from a pharmaceutical mfg's cafeteria to a elementary school gymnasium. We are now settled into an official dojo and look forward to growing our classes.
What do you enjoy most about teaching?
Truthfully I enjoy the adult class, but I don't think anything is better than teaching the kids. Seeing them enjoy the martial art as I do and have fun makes everything worth it.
What is your website address?
